An elderly Missouri woman with only months to live received a threatening letter saying that if she didn’t clean the sand from her yard within 10 days, she’d likely face jail time or a $1,000 fine.

According to reports, Kansas City, Missouri, resident Georgianna Reid has lived in her home for 33 years, and three years ago, she decided to fill her lawn with sand.

“I would say I’m putting in the largest litter box in the world,” Reid told KSHB of her choice to fill the yard with sand (video below). “I called the city, I asked permission, not once but twice.”

Now, city officials are telling Reid that if she doesn’t remove the sand within 10 days, she could face 180 days in jail or a $1,000 fine. Due to the seriousness of the threat from the city, Reid has decided to pay to have the sand removed. The woman’s friends worry that if she doesn’t get rid of it, she’ll die in jail, as she currently only has six months to live.
